Van Schaik Bookstore, leading retailers of academic books in South Africa, recently announced the winners of their Bucks for Books competition, which ran for the first quarter of the academic year.
In an initiative by Van Schaik to have some fun with their customers and to assist students with the costs of their education, 90 students won the money they spent on their purchases back. The Bucks for Books competition offered any student customer who spent R750 or more at any Van Schaik Bookstore, the chance of winning the values of their purchases back in cash. A total of R98 000 was paid back to the winners over nine weeks.
"The winners were chosen at random and drawn from a national pool of entries and the grand prize winner received a Gigabyte Netbook," explains Margaret Vyver-Rambau, Marketing Manager, Van Schaik Bookstore.
"Students are required to buy large quantities of textbooks at the beginning of the year, and we understand that it can be a financial burden on them. With this in mind, we conceptualised the Bucks for Books competition that enabled Van Schaik to instil some excitement and anticipation around a necessary purchase, and at the same time give something back to the lucky students who as we all know always need a bit of extra cash!"
"The competition was very well received and we received great feedback from the participants. It was a most heart-warming and rewarding promotion," concludes Vyver-Rambau.
