Van Schaik Bookstore answers call for second branch in Polokwane

Van Schaik Bookstore, a leading and preferred supplier of academic, trade and reference textbooks, opened a store near the University of Limpopo at Turfloop Plaza in University Street, Mankweng on June 4th, 2012. The store’s trading hours are Monday – Friday: 08h00 – 17h00, Saturdays: 08h00 – 13h00. Van Schaik already has a store in Polokwane in Schoeman Street. “It’s important to us to stay abreast of the needs of the communities we operate in. We saw an opportunity to be of service to the greater community - not just to the students who expressed a need for a store closer to the University, but also to the schools in the surrounding areas,” says Stephan Erasmus, Managing Director of Van Schaik Bookstore. “Furthermore UNISA students will now have a choice of two shops where they can buy their textbooks."

The new store is within walking distance of the University of Limpopo so students don’t have to pay expensive taxi fare to buy their textbooks, which means more money in their pockets to spend on what’s important to them.

Van Schaik has always distinguished itself by being as accessible as possible to its target market. This is evidenced by the majority of Van Schaik stores being located on campuses or in the centre of student-dense areas throughout the country.

In addition to students, it also serves lecturers, who can register their prescribed textbooks for each subject with their nearest Van Schaik Bookstore by supplying details such as the title, author, ISBN, quantity of books required and delivery date. Van Schaik staff will then source and order the books in the most cost-effective manner and will keep them in stock. It then becomes a simple matter of the lecturer referring the students to the bookstore to get their prescribed textbooks for the year.

Students have the convenience of a self-help concept store or counter stores, like the new Turfloop store, with the support of well-trained and experienced staff. The stores are easy to access as they are usually based on campus or within walking distance from institutions. The Turfloop store will also offer Eduloan facilities to students.

The company also runs special promotions and competitions throughout the year.
